Angel's Landing and Zion National Park
March 2024 - In March I made my final annual pilgrimage to Las Vegas to watch my Arizona Wildcats in what was their final PAC-12 performance. In years past when I was a younger man, I pulled all-nighters to party and hit as many hot spots as one could hit in 56 hours. Nowadays my body rejects alcohol violently leaving me in a hungover state for several days. Having fully accepted this I have turned my interests to the great outdoors. This isn't new by any means, but this year's Vegas trip looked way different.
Instead of visiting Vegas for its nightlife and all-day parting atmosphere me and a friend decided to use Vegas as a travel hub and hit the open road to Zion. We were fortunate enough to land a permit to hike Angel's Landing which has dwarfed all of my previous lifetime hiking adventures (with The Stairway to Heaven in Oahu as an extremely close second). I spent some time the night before the hike reading reviews online and basically scaring the shit out of myself. I pressed on nonetheless and am happy to have conquered this peak and some long-standing fears in the process. If you have the chance and are able bodied you won't regret summiting this climb in one of the most beautiful National Parks in this country.
